Throne Speech 2008
Did You Know

Construction of the replacement of the oldest part of the Regina Provincial Correctional Centre was completed on time and on budget in summer, 2008.

Alternatives to Saskatchewan CRN (Canadian Registration Number) registration are now applicable towards items manufactured after January 1, 1997.  Please refer to the publications tilted "Acceptance Requirements for Used Boilers and Pressure Vessels" and "Registration Requirements for Boilers and Pressure Vessels (New Designs)" for specific details pertaining to the alternatives to Saskatchewan CRN registration.

What items can the alternatives apply to?

The alternative to a Saskatchewan CRN is available for any boiler or pressure vessel manufactured after January 1, 1997 with the following exceptions:

  • Pressure vessels manufactured in accordance with ASME Section VIII Division 2;
  • Pressure vessels manufactured in accordance with ASME Section VIII Division 3;
  • Pressure vessels designed with limited cycles of service manufactured in accordance with ASME Section VIII Division 1; and
  • Boilers manufactured in accordance with ASME Section I that are over 10,000 kW.

These exclusions from CRN registration have been retracted through Section 3(2) of The Boiler and Pressure Vessel Act, 1999

What information gets recorded on the nameplate?

The nameplate must meet the requirements of the ASME Code and the Canadian Standards Association Boiler, Pressure Vessel, and Pressure Piping Code (CSA B-51).  A CRN will not be issued by Saskatchewan when the alternative to CRN registration is used.  A "3" added to the suffix of a CRN issued by another province shall not be added to the CRN stamped on the nameplate or vessel.
