Role of Building and Fire Safety
Building and Fire Safety plays a key role in licensing building officials by:

  • reviewing applications and supporting information, 
  • co-ordinating the administration of examinations by the Southeast Regional College,
  • issuing building official licences,
  • maintaining records about licensees,
  • issuing requests for payment and notices of renewals and
  • cancelling or suspending licences.

Our Goal: To support and advance safe building and fire practices across Saskatchewan.

Building officials in Saskatchewan must hold a valid licence before a local municipality can appoint them to act on their behalf. As the authority with jurisdiction over the licensing process Building Standards.

in accordance with The Fire Prevention Act, 1992, and Regulations, provides Saskatchewan communities, fire departments, and emergency service organizations with programs and services that protect people, property and the environment from fire. 

Building and Fire Safety offers a number of training programs of interest to both the building and fire services.
BFS also provides current information about courses and offered by other agencies.
Bringing clarity to the complex world of building and fire legislation, regulations and codes.
A comprehensive listing of the Acts, Regulations and Codes governing building and fire safety. Help is available for the interpretation, application and use of these key documents. Information on the licensing of building officials is also available.
Providing technical assistance to municipal authorities in the use, application and enforcement of codes, legislation and regulations.
