Building and Fire Safety Codes, Legislation and LicensingSaskatchewan's building and fire officials are primarily responsible for implementing and enforcing a broad range of construction, fire and life safety ordinances. Understanding the complex relationships between provincial legislation and regulations, national building and fire codes as well as the requirements of local bylaws is essential. Building Officials are responsible for ensuring compliance with The Uniform Building and Accessibility Standards Act , the National Building Code (NBC) and associated regulations. Officials must be licensed before they can advise municipalities. The licensing qualifications are set out in The Building and Accessibility Standards Administration Regulations and summarized in the brochure Building Official Licences. Local Assistants to the Fire Commissioner are responsible for ensuring compliance with The Fire Prevention Act, 1992, the National Fire Code (NFC) and associated regulations. |
