To meet the government's commitment to fight organized crime in Saskatchewan, the 2008-09 Budget provides new funding for nine police officers who will focus on conducting investigations into street gangs.

Under Section 742.3(1)(b), it is a mandatory condition of a Conditional Sentence Order that an offender report to a supervisor.  The Province of Saskatchewan has designated Probation Officers as Conditional Sentence Supervisors.  Supervisors are given the authority to determine the frequency and manner of reporting as well as give permission to go outside the jurisdiction of the Court and be notified of changes to name, address, employment or occupation.

Section 742.4(1) provides the supervisor authority to request changes to the optional conditions of a Conditional Sentence Order while Section 742.5(1) gives authority to make application to transfer an order to another jurisdiction.  Finally, Section 742.6(4) states, “an allegation of a breach of condition must be supported by a supervisor’s written report”.

Every offender subject to supervision by a probation officer is assessed under the case management policy and expected to participate in programs and services that address the specific criminogenic needs. The case plan developed for each offender is unique to that offender’s needs and circumstances.

In Saskatchewan, aboriginal offenders account for the largest percentage of the sentenced population.  Included in the “Aboriginal” category are Status, Non-status and Metis people as self declared at the time of admission. Corrections does not require individuals to declare their status and respects their right not to do so. These are identified in a separate category. All other ethnic groups are combined into the Non-Aboriginal category.
