Provincial Budget 2008 - 2009
Throne Speech 2008
Did You Know

To meet the government's commitment to fight organized crime in Saskatchewan, the 2008-09 Budget provides new funding for nine police officers who will focus on conducting investigations into street gangs.

An offender that has two years or more to be served from the latest date of sentencing must serve that sentence of incarceration in a Federal Penitentiary.

These federal sentences appear in provincial correctional centers under a variety of different situations as follows:

  1. These offenders are delivered from the adult criminal courts to a provincial correctional centre where they are held until they either waive their right to appeal or the 15 day appeal period has expired.
  2. Offenders that have less than two years remaining to be served on a federal sentence can be transferred to a provincial correctional centre in Saskatchewan under the Exchange of Service Agreement [ESA] where they serve the remainder of their sentence closer to home.
  3. Offenders released on federal parole, who violate their parole are first returned to a provincial correctional centre pending a decision of the parole board.
  4. When the parole board revokes or terminates a parole, an offender may serve a short period of that time in a provincial correctional centre pending their return to a federal penitentiary.
