In the 2008-09 budget, the government provided increased funding for eleven police officers who will work in the Internet Child Exploitation Unit (ICE) to protect Saskatchewan children from sexual exploitation over the Internet.

A Comprehensive,
Community-Based Approach to Injury Prevention

The number one health risk to children isn't drugs or disease. It's injuries. In Saskatchewan, 70% of all deaths for children and youth ages 1-19 are due to injury. These injuries are not just "accidents". They are predictable and preventable events. With education and the support of caring communities, children can learn to be much more safe.

Risk WatchTM is a comprehensive, schoolbased injury prevention curriculum that targets students in preschool to grade eight. Risk WatchTM provides teachers with a community-based support system of safety resource persons. As a broad-based injury prevention program, Risk WatchTM facilitates communities working together for a common goal of childhood injury prevention. The program includes innovative injury prevention lessons in 8 risk areas.

Teachers like the resource because it was developed by safety and curriculum professionals and it fits seamlessly into the classroom. Risk Watch is also a close fit with Saskatchewan Learning core curricula. The community likes the program because it targets preventable injuries - the number one cause of child injury and death. And kids like Risk WatchTM because it's fun.
